Telescope Observing
On this lab, you will need to observe 12 objects through the large
telescopes on the deck. The TAs will point them at a variety of
interesting objects.
Your write-up should have the intro and the conclusion, as
usual. Additionally, turn in page 145-150 in your lab manual.
Each observation should include:
- Object Name
- Object Type (planet? star? galaxy? nebula?)
- Date, time, sky conditions
- A sketch of the object. This should be a sketch of what you
saw through the telescope. The art need not be a Jacques
Louis David masterpeice, but you should make it look like what
you saw through the eyepeice.
- Description of the object, in words. What is colored? Did
it look fuzzy? Sharp?
- Additional Information: What are you actually seeing?
Reflected light from the planet's surface? Reflected light from
the clouds? The star's own light? Glowing gas? Lots of stars?
