Lunar Observing
In this lab, you will get a chance to spend some time looking at
the Moon. You will identify a collection of types of geolgical
features, then find their names (and, yes, pretty much everything
on the Moon has been named by now). The directions for this lab
are pretty straight forward (read through it before coming,
anyway). Still, a couple of points:
- Don't bother looking for a crater with terraced walls. I
think that they are too hard to spot.
- Don't look for a rille, either. Same reason.
- In part IV, pick two objects you are interested and draw
them as best you can. They should be recognizable in your
sketchs. They should also be different kinds of objects (don't
do two simple craters, for instance).
There is a lunar globe on the observatory deck for you to use to
identify the feature names. If you don't get them all identified
at the observing session, visit my office. I have a large lunar
map on my wall. (I know, geek! geek!).
